MOVIE REVIEW : K-19 WIDOWMAKER

There are some movies and actors that intrigue you. Harrison Ford as a Russian submarine captain has its appeal. I remember my friend Kevin Davis speaking of this movie a long time ago and with Netflix I can add anything to my queue and have no regrets. Maybe I'm a little bit critical, but I dislike roles where actors don't get the accent. I'm not very fluent in Russian, but I know enough about it to know that Liam Neeson and Harrison Ford didn't get it. Tom Cruise is trying much of the same in his new movie Valkyrie. You can't have a name like Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg or Comrade Captain Alexei Vostrikov and sound like an American (or a bad Russian). With that in mind though, the plot is pretty interesting. Here is the tagline : "When Russia's first nuclear submarine malfunctions on its maiden voyage, the crew must race to save the ship and prevent a nuclear disaster." Sounds like something up your alley right? Radiation sucks. No matter how you slice it. Couple cool things about this flick though. True story. National Geographic helped. Cold War. The other side of the story. I know my movies revies are a matter of personal preference. That happens with this game. Therefore, I can't give high marks thought it was a good movie. If only they had nailed the accents...
