YOU'RE A GOOD AMERICAN

I've been listening to a lot of conservative talk show radio recently (as my friend Ryan Joy can attest to from last night!). I would listen to a liberal radio station also but they're don't last very long in Springfield, MO. I'm trying to get a grip on what both sides are saying about the election and how it is shaping up and how each is making their play on the issues. It seems in this election (probably like most) that truth is muddled in creative plays on words.

On one of these talks shows, nearly every person who was calling in would say to the other person "You're a good American." What does that even mean? Talk about narcissistic (characteristic of those having an inflated idea of their own importance). Here is a general dialogue of how it could go :

Talk Show Host : "Go ahead Justin from Springfield, MO"

Justin : "Thanks for taking my call Talk Show host. You're a good American."

Talk Show Host : "Thank you and you are too sir. What are your thoughts?"

I could be a horrible American and my own self indulgent phrase would simply appease a situation. Both sides of the aisle (very John McCain of me) have some flaws, but I don't think cheering for a certain team makes someone a good or bad American. As a popular prank phone call victim once said, "I'm not a good American or a bad American, I'm American." Sounds like a plan to me.
