CAUGHT UP IN TRUTH

It seems that I'm in one of those times where God won't let something die. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (get the point yet) and over and over again, God keeps slamming the word "truth" into my head. Seasons are fun. They spark new things in you. Cause old things to come back. Solidify something for a long time. But truth will not leave my mind. Every passage of Scripture I come across has truth in it (I've tried looking elsewhere). But everywhere I go, something new about truth comes up (see Ezekiel 13:1-16, Matthew 5:33-37, Philippians 4:8-9, 2 Timothy 2:14-17 and so on and so on and so on). My most recent endeavor comes in the way of a new favorite for me.

Titus 1:10-16 (English Standard Version)
10 For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. 11 They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. 12 One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

That will take your breath away huh? Paul doesn't seem to be fond of the empty talkers or liars. He even uses extra voices to make his point. Evil beasts will make you think twice about lying again. To me, God seems to be working truth over and over and over again into my head. Look how many times truth and lies comes up in this passage. Whether it's passages about lies or passages about truth, God won't let it get away from my mind. I don't find myself to be a liar (at least that's what I tell myself). I think we can convince ourselves that we are "not" something because it doesn't affect other people. When in reality, no matter the severity, either something is or isn't. Maybe God is emphasizing truth because either something is true or it isn't. And if it isn't truth....you guessed it. For those of us who speak on behalf of THE truth, it of the essence that our mouth carries truth. But we cross contaminate the water. Purity and whatever metaphor for non-purity that you like coming out of the same source doesn't make for very pure. There are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers. Here's to the few and the proud. And I'm not talking the Marines.
