MOVIE REVIEW : INDIANA JONES

On this Memorial Day, it makes sense to either go to the lake (low water temperatures, rain and recovering from a head cold made that a bad combination), BBQ (which I did with the in-laws and we tore it up) and/or watch a movie. On my radar for the summer was the new Indiana Jones flick. I'm a big fan of George Lucas (made two consecutive enterprises out of stories which made him a BILLIONAIRE), Steven Spielberg (no explanation needed), and Harrison Ford so it was a match made for me. With Steven Spielberg, I've found there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind. The action is usually over the top. It's not quite Michael Bay, but it's over the top. The dialogue in the movie can either change your life or at moments can be cheesy. Again, not quite Michael Bay but cheesy. This Indiana Jones had quite a legacy to live up to for me. I loved the previous three and much like Star Wars, George Lucas was going to need to bring his A game. With a packed out theater, the boss man Pastor Gary and some other church friends in the house, we were ready to go. And to sum it up, it fulfilled all that I thought coming in. There was summer blockbuster action, legacy (whatever comes after trilogy anyway) jokes & quarks, cheesy dialogue at times and an ending that ties in the time period. There is room for more to come, which makes all of us happy because it leaves the door open for another blockbuster in the years to come. Some movies deserve to be watched in theaters because what they mean to the movie watching time (i.e. summer blockbuster time). Catch a matinée and pay $5 (at least at Springfield 8) and it will be worth the $10 for you and a friend. Steven, George, Harrison and even Shia deserver it.
