MOVIE REVIEW : CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR

Tom Hanks. Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Julia Roberts. That's quite the list of stars. With the "buzz" about the movie, I thought it would be worth checking it out. And since it's all the same when using Netflix, I figured why not. The one thing you don't anticipate is a political war movie being about a womanizer (more background checks required). Call me naive, but should it be possible to play the role of a womanizer and not show all the woman being ized? This is my one inhibition about Charlie Wilson's War (and most movies that are produced nowadays). If it weren't for that, I think it would be a different story. Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts give their customary great roles. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a thug. No way to get around it. That guy can make every movie. He's kinda like Bill Murray in that sense. Most notable line "I bugged the scotch. Move past it." It has been used commonly recently. In Charlie Wilson's War, as in most political remakes nowadays, there is the modern spin on a past action that brings to the surface the current woes that the government (which most would pin of President Bush) are undergoing. Past politics being portrayed to deal with current scenarios. Doesn't really seem to work. But let all that slide, and it's a good flick. Get past the izing and climatic political statement and you have a good flick with good acting. Problem is, there's a lot of it. And for me, that's makes for a problem.
