MOVIE REVIEW : THE HAPPENING

There is one thing you need to know before you continue with this blog. I think Mark Walhberg is a terrible actor. I know he has had some moments where it has really come together for him, but overall I can't stand him. Maybe it's the Marky Mark that gets to me. Maybe it's the funky bunch. Whatever it is, he is no good for me. This movie does nothing to help in any way to convince me otherwise. I've heard that it was his character and that is how it was supposed to be played. I don't care what it was, it was no good. I'm a big fan of M Night Shyamalan. I've enjoyed each of his movies, his style of story telling and how suspensful each of his movies is. For his first endeavor into rated R movies, he should have left it in PG-13. The R rating was due to suspensful violence and it didn't seem to merit making it worth it. The same could have been done in a PG-13 rating as Signs, Unbreakable and The Village proved. Instead he elected to make it even more shocking. Problem is, the lead actor is weak. The story isn't nearly as "good" as the others. It's political. All the negative being said, Rachel left booing and I didn't think it was so bad. The guy can tell a story. He can make your heart beat without making you feel like vomitting. But when Mark Walhberg is staring in your film, give him a supporting role or it may come back to bite you.
