THE REAL JUSTIN CHANDLER READ YOUR JESUS IS TOO SAFE. And I liked it.

I'm in the process of pounding out a couple of books. In preparation for Advent and a series we are starting in THEFACTORY, I wanted to sharpen and expand my Christology (understanding of Jesus).

I ran across Your Jesus is Too Safe, while looking at Vintage Jesus and thought the title and concept were enough to make it worth it. To be honest, I haven't heard of Jared C. Wilson. In fact, I'm not alone on that. The truth after reading this book is that you either should, or you will. This book was good.

So many times in dealing with theological issues, those who are well trained speak in a way that no one can understand what they're talking about. In fact, the speech is too lofty that it is only accessible by those who are already apart of the same club. In the case of Your Jesus is Too Safe, the facets of Christ's life are put in such a way that laymen or seasoned clergy will find benefit from it. As is customary with book reviews on this blog, here are a couple of quotes:

If you find the message of Jesus easy to digest, you’d better check the label on the box.Jared C. Wilson, Your Jesus is Too Safe, pg. 27

The temple? Replaced by Jesus. The Word of God? Incarnate in Jesus. The Law? Fulfilled in Jesus. The prophets. Culminated in Jesus. The tabernacle? Foreshadow of Jesus. The glory of the Lord? Present in Jesus.Jared C. Wilson, Your Jesus is Too Safe, pg. 143

The real confession, the real belief, the real faith is one that flows form mind to heart, and from heart to mind, and naturally results in faithful hands and feet. That’s the kind of confession, belief, and faith that will cultivate the community of God. That’s the kind of confession, belief, and faith that will be a fortress heavier than the gates of hell. That is the power of a real confession.” Jared C. Wilson, Your Jesus is Too Safe, pg. 262

We can’t make Jesus Lord. He’s already Lord. We’ve got to take up our cross, deny ourselves, and embrace his lordship because he’s already in control.Jared C. Wilson, Your Jesus is Too Safe, pg. 266

As you can see, Jared likes to bring it (and these are but a few). If you are look for a well rounded study of Jesus and His life, you'll most likely enjoy Your Jesus is Too Safe. After finishing this book, I am excited to begin our series on Jesus (even if we aren't covering these aspects of His life). Thanks to Jared for the great read.
