BEST BOOK READ IN 2010...THUS FAR

Hands down, it has to be The Walking Dead Compendium, Vol. 1 (though there is a TV series coming to AMC and that is exciting).

As most of you who read this blog will know, I am trying to make a habit of reading 50 books in a year. Let's just say, it's a lot harder than it sounds. Especially when life happens. However, I have had a chance to read over 20 and am plugging my way through more (trying to rally). If I had to go back and read only one book thus far, and one that hasn't been mentioned in this blog yet, I would read Power Through Prayer by E.M. Bounds.

The premise is simple enough. 111 short book, large text pages. What I've found with many books like this, what the book lacks in size, it makes up for in content that takes more than others to wade through.

Power Through Prayer was a gift, given to me by John MacDonald, youth pastor at Warren Woods. With a note that stated (in short), "This book rocked my world. My gift to you for having an impact in my life", how could it not get off on the right foot? What I expected from E.M. Bounds is in line with a book that John MacDonald would recommend. For a man in whom I share a bond because we've prayed together, and in whom has built a ministry on prayer, a powerful book on prayer was exactly what he would give. And exactly what I needed. Instead of belaboring you with chapter descriptions, I will simply share with you some of my favorite quotes:

“The man makes the preacher. God must make the man.E.M. Bounds, Power Through Prayer, pg. 19

"The only ambition the preacher can cherish is to have God with him." E.M. Bounds, Power Through Prayer, pg. 67

"A sermon that has more head infused into it than heart will not come home with efficacy to the hearers." Richard Cecil, Power Through Prayer, pg. 74

"The greatest benefactor this age could have is the man who will bring the preachers and the church back to prayer." E.M. Bounds, Power Through Prayer, pg. 110
