MENNONITES ARE CURIOUS PEOPLE

On Monday, one of the guys from the youth group was on the wrong end of a collision that happened while playing football. In a couple of our games, we have seen why we need to play two hand touch and not tackle (and I fractured my ankle the first time we played tackle). The long story short is that he got a couple of cuts on his eye (requiring stitches) and a mild concussion. Crazy huh?
Before this happened, a group of Mennonites showed up to the ER to wait while some work was being done on a member of their family. It is interesting to see Mennonites in public. Immediately you think of the Amish (interesting history at the link above) and you think that their avoidance of "outsiders" is something huge on their to-do list. When we were sitting there in the ER waiting, one of my main goals was to keep people calm. Michael (the concussed and cut kid) was going to be fine, but everyone needed to have more laughs and breathe more often. So I did what I do. Tell jokes. Stories. The usual. And there were times where I would catch the Mennonite family laughing or "watching us" interact." It was great. Not only that, but they had an extremely cute baby (complete with his new Mennonite clothes). Meeting new people is always a joy. People watching is a great joy. Meeting Mennonites and watching them interact with "us", priceless.
