MOVIE REVIEW : A LESSON BEFORE DYING

One of my favorite actors in all the planet is Don Cheadle. He's simply amazing. Lots of his movies have been up there in my list (click on his name and check out his filmography). One day I was updating my queue with Netflix and decided to watch some of his movies that I hadn't seen yet. A Lesson Before Dying was on that list. There are certain parts of American history that you just don't feel good about. Parts of our past that make your cringe to think about it. Roll the times back 100 years and think of a falsely accused African-American male in the south and you get the idea of what happens. Loads of racisim, injustice and cruelty. Mekhi Phifer's character is made to feel like an animal and Don Cheadle is there to make him remember that he is a man. Rachel was watching the movie with me and when we stopped it the first time she said, "I have a feeling this one is going to make me cry." It was never resumed. Watching through the movie you see that inside of every man is a knowledge that he is something until it is ripped away from him. Great flick all around. It's a little indie so it has that novel feel to it. Worth a watch if the triumph of humanity is on your heart.
