BOOK REVIEW : PAGAN CHRISTIANITY

My new favorite read is a book called Pagan Christianity by Frank Viola and George Barna. Barna is known for his research about the Christian church and this book follows in similar steps. However, instead of giving you a ton of facts, they decide to focus on the roots of Christianity. When they begin to look at the common church structure, character and conduct, a lot of the things we consider to be New Testament living are actually rooted in other places. Here is a sneek peak in :

"Have you ever wondered why we Christians do what we do for church every Sunday morning? Why do we "dress up" for church? Why does the pastor preach a sermon each week? Why do we have pews, steeples, choirs, and seminaries? This volume reveals the startling truth: most of what Christians do in present-day churches is not rooted in the New Testament, but in pagan culture and rituals developed long after the death of the apostles."

It is fantastic and will really challenge you to return to what is the heart of Christianity and what is simply what we've become accustomed to. Pick it up. Check it out. It is challenging the heck out of me.
