THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER

Last night, we had a night of prayer and worship with the students. Once a month, our church has a weekend of prayer and worship. From Friday at 11am until Sunday at 8am, we have two hour intervals (the first set is only one hour to make it even) of a prayer and worship leader. There is usually a full band and a good group of people gathered together to pray. A while back, we started to have the Wednesday night before be a night where we can have time with our students to learn "how to" pray. It's been pretty spectacular. We have really significant events each night (though not all of them are knock down, drag out nights). Last night, was much the same. We were able to gather together, pray for the purpose of our church (beat up, burnt out, hurt in life, hurt in church and God's pent up desire for Springfield), internal renewal and growth as well as to confess sin with one another (one of my new favorites). It was great. In the beginning, I let the students know that selections from the Book of Common Prayer were available if they wanted some examples of how to pray about specifics and then to go on. It was great! I continue to find myself to be, what I can only describe as Neuthodox. I love the traditions of the Church! Each are founded within a gigantic moment and have since died off because of them being habitual. Here's to changing all that.

One of the truly refreshing moments for me (whether it was for everyone else is still TBD but it was really good for me) was when we prayed the Lord's Prayer together at the end. We have a student, Haley Stevens, who has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and has movement limited only to her eyes. As I prayed through the Lord's Prayer for her, it's amazing how everything was put within perspective. It's amazing to ask that God would do what His will is. I know what I want. I want Haley to be healed as much as anyone else! I would love nothing more for her to show up this Sunday and says what's up. It's completely submissive to sit before the throne and to say, no my will but Your's. Wow. There were moments where it almost took my breath away (or had me start crying). Heavy stuff. And it's soooooo good.
