TOO BIG FOR MY DIGITAL BRITCHES

GQ's 66 rules, tips and secrets to being a 21st Century Gentleman has literally redefined my life. As I continue to read through it (both personally and professionally), each time something new arrives at my door to let me know what's up (I will hopefully have more on the above topic soon, but that will just have to wait). One of the things I read recently, which I will be unable to quote (due to it being in office and and I'm trying to stay out today) is this "with the modern world, we can convince ourselves we are bigger than we are because of our digital prowess." The point they were getting across is that we think that beacause we have a large Twitter list, celebrity status on Facebook or a long list of blog hits that our reach is further than reality. What GQ was trying to emphasize is that "actual" relationships are what really count. All of the digital stuff is fluff. We may have people reading from Russia and Thailand that we have gained some notierity in the world. However, the "real" relationships are the ones we can get ahold of. The people we can look in the eye, shake their hand, laugh and cry with. That is the place where you and I have to return blogosphere. Just because we can put it here, doesn't make it worthy or our voice any louder. It simply puts it here in the vast array of digital information.
