NEUTHODOX

I want to be the first to define a term. Neuthodox. Though it may only appear on Urban Dictionary (and that the sole result of yours truly), I think it may be a word that will sweep the nation (see below for being too big for my digital britches). It's the only way by which I can describe some of the things that I have found to be important. Upon stumbling upon ccel.org I have found myself IMMENSELY refreshed by the history of the Church. I was listening to someone and they said "to take in the whole council of faith" which only added to my thoughts.

I'm a sucker for tradition. I think most of this has to do with being presented with it AFTER having a genuine experience with Jesus. This is something I can immensely thank my mom for. We have a tradition (whenever I'm in town and not home with the trots) to attend a "high church" (all the bells, whistles and tradition) for Christmas Eve / Christmas. There was such a sense of reverence and history that to sing hymns, light candles and walk through the ceremony was something that was immensely refreshing. I've been going through church history to find how much more I can dig back up and bring to the 21st century. To be able to celebrate Lent, Advent, the creeds and other pillars of Church history has brought the history which we are proud of to the forefront.

One of the things that I am becoming continually reminded of is my lack of novelty. In Why We're Not Emergent (see below), one of the things that the authors brought up is how we can become arrogant in our thought that we are doing something new, but are simply reinventing something thousands of years old. We most likely sound like someone else but because we haven't done adequate study (and have a touch of pride about it), we go on think we are bringing the first wheel to the planet. I'm nothing new (though selfishly I hope I have created a new term and not the lames ones I made for Tyler). I do want to be the first amongst my peers to begin to acknowledge our history and share that with generations ahead and behind us. And hopefully DC Talk won't be the only ones who care about where we come from. No matter how catchy the tune.

I see what your saying with experiencing Jesus before the tradition. I lived with a lot of the tradition before I had a huge encounter with Jesus. So part of me can do with out it, but your perspective is very refreshing. hope i'm not contradicting anything I said at lunch. and I'm listening to dc talk right now
