ESCAPISM ALSO KNOWN AS DARKON

The day of all days has happened. Darkon was watched last night. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, click here and all mysteries will be explained. It was much more than I could have anticipated. One thing that struck me over and over again in the movie is the idea of people getting out of their lives that suck and going into a fantasy life that is far more fulfilling.
We live in a world much like Darkon. Throughout our planet you find people who have their many "outs" to get away from what they know and to take hold of what they've always wished for. Throughout the documentary of Darkon (people who host medieval battles over fake realms, kings, knights, etc. all made up by real people) people spoke over and over and over again about the life they couldn't have in the real world and the life they could have (with no ramifications mind you) in Darkon. But whether it's Darkon or some other thing, we all have something that "takes us away." Drugs. Alcohol. Etc. Etc. It seems our world is filled with people who are trying to get away.
You ever thing it's because we know we're made for something better? That all of us have this primordial itch to have something better than we've had? And if all of us have it, then they has to point to something right? That has to lead somewhere. For all us to know that there is more, really shows how much more we were made for. It's not the 9-5 (because that loses it's joys), it's not the money (because that runs out) and it's not the "toys" (because they get old and have to replaced by new ones). From the beginning when God ordered our steps, knew the hairs on our head, formed us in our mothers womb, the intent was not what we would do or the things we would have, but it really is about who we become. It really is about the things that happen on the inside. Everything we know about Jesus is about excellent, fulfilled and never lacking life now. And a life where there will be no sorrow, no pain and no death. Sounds to me like something infinitely better than Darkon and something much more compelling than something that could promise an "escape." Christianity is the anti-escapism, because the life we are promised now is the fullest life to be life. May we show the kind of life that proves it.
