GO GREEN - POWER OF "TEAM"

No, this isn't a plug for saving the economy (though the way my worldview is shaping itself, that may come pretty soon). It's a plug for the Celtics. When I was growing up, I hated everything from Boston. My day was a huge Patriots (when they sucked), Red Sox (when they sucked), Celtics (when they sucked) and Bruins (you got it, when they sucked) fan. Childhood memories are filled with "yea baby"s and "Go P-men", "Celtics baby", or "Red Sox....ahhhhh." Therefore, I decided not to like any of those teams and see what happens. Hence, the Dolphins (when they were good), Braves (when they were REALLY good), Magic (Penny & Shaq) and Avs (Colorado love). Last night was good though. KG is a monster. Ray Allen has "the touch." I'm indifferent to Paul Pierce. Nothing will take the most competitive (and somewhat intimidating) man in basketball and make him breakdown like a baby like winning a championship.
When I was driving to the local coffee shop this morning, I was listening to ESPN radio and they had an interview with Ray Allen. One of the things that he brought up was that though they were all fiercely competitive and really good individuals, they saw what being an individual got them. They committed themselves to team defense, team offense and winning as a team. He continually spoke of how great it was to be around the guys he was around and I couldn't help but think the same.
I'm surrounded by a great team / staff at the church I work at. If it were about accomplishments, this group would have a lot of em. Being able to come in and be a part of it is a tremendous privelege. We are beginning to see a little bit of what happened with the Celtics. The more our visions all begin to look the same, the more we are able to accomplish for the Kingdom and it becomes so seemless and easy that it is shocking that we didn't make it happen earlier.
Not only is the church staff I work with a great team, but I am surrounded by GREAT people who care to volunteer their free time to invest in the lives of students. Future pastors and leaders, marketing gurus, money men, future Secret Service people, a future wife (WOOHOO!), teen girl specialists and the list can go on and on and on. It is a privelege to work with them and to have them dedicate their time to the students. Sometimes, you can be used to the company that you are keeping and forget what kind of company you are keeping (I can't help but think of Jacob and a rock in the middle of the field...). Just like our church staff, the staff at theBURN is beginning to become more and more like the Celtics. Our communication is becoming better (mostly my fault for any lack), our vision is becoming shared, our strenghts are being utilized and we're sucking every single second out of someone's life (kidding).
It's really good to be a part of successful teams. Our season is much longer than an 82-game NBA season, but our "championship" is far more fulfilling and longer lasting. I can't wait to get to the moment when it all comes to a close (whether for me or for us all) and we get to hoist our proverbial trophy to the sound of Messianic "well done(s)." Congrats to the Celtics and especially KG.
