SOCCER IN AMERICA

In efforts to pass time today, I watched some soccer on ESPN (it was a slow moving day). Not just any soccer though; it was the All-Star game. The interesting thing about it was that there was only one MLS All-Star team. Seems the all stars in America soccer were running short. They invited a team from England's premier league to give a little spice to the action. Not just any team though. West Ham United. They were ranked 10th out of 20 last year in a league that includes ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Not bad. Considering there are way more talented teams in other countries / divisions / leagues, I got to thinking. What I saw today was the football equivalent of the Canadian Football League All-Stars playing Minnesota, Arizona or Philadelphia (8-8). The baseball equivalent of the Single A All-Stars playing Milwaukee or Toronto (83-79). And the basketball equivalent of the European All-Stars versus Toronto or Portland (41-41). And we wonder why people in America don't care about soccer. The world's greatest sport is being presented to the public at full ticket price to be nothing better than a .500 team anywhere else in the world. This is the All-Star game!!! Imagine what a regular match is like...Better product = better results. Better soccer = more fans. MLS = janky. UEFA is redonkulous.
